Irish regulator goes closer to banning Facebook data transfers between the EU and the US

The data privacy regulator in Ireland made progress.

In 2020, the Data Protection Commission (DPC) issued a preliminary order to halt Meta's method of transferring user data from the EU to the US.

After the agreement permitting it was declared unlawful due to privacy concerns by Europe's highest court.

After the block was issued, a tentative data transfer agreement was reached between the European Union and the United States to end the impasse.

In the absence of a definitive agreement, data flows have continued.

The DPC's investigation has continued concurrently, and on Thursday it provided a draught of its final conclusion to its EU peers.
